Founded in 1961 in Maidstone, Kent by Raymond Cooke — the name stands for Kent Engineering and Foundry. KEF became the first loudspeaker manufacturer to use computers for speaker measurement and design in 1973, and introduced the Uni-Q coincident-source driver in 1988.
