Why 87?
A weighted aggregate of four category scores. Reasoning is editorial — physics-grounded engine in development.
Hegel H120 delivers 60W into 8Ω with damping factor >1000 — overspecified for the LS50 Meta's 85 dB sensitivity and 8Ω nominal load. Headroom for transients without strain at typical listening levels.
H120's onboard streaming covers digital duties up to 24/192. Rega Planar 2 with the bundled Carbon MM cartridge gives a competent analog path; H120's line-in is unused — no phono preamp gap to fill since the system pipes the turntable into a separate phono stage upstream.
4.5 × 3.2 m is mid-sized for the LS50 Meta. The rear port wants ≥30 cm from the back wall, which the 2.5 m listening triangle easily accommodates. The REL T/5x crosses over below 80 Hz and handles the small-room bass mode the Metas would otherwise struggle with.
LS50 Meta's measured neutrality combined with Hegel's slightly warm midrange averages to a balanced presentation. The sub integrates without coloring above its crossover.
