Wharfedale

Founded in 1932 in Ilkley, Yorkshire by Gilbert Arthur Briggs (1890–1978), who built his first loudspeaker in his cellar and named the company after the local valley of the River Wharfe. Briggs later collaborated with Peter Walker of Quad on demonstrations comparing live music with recorded playback, conducted at London's Royal Festival Hall.
